Comic Book Art

I was introduced to reading comics by a good friend of mine. What drew me to them was not only the characters, but the artwork - I loved the pictures. One of the reasons I've stopped reading Catwoman comics is that I don't like the art so much now that Jim Balent is no longer the artist. It's a shame as I loved the character. This was my first Catwoman picture. One thing I was very interested in was trying to get the body shape right - I am not good at drawing human shapes, though I admit that the female shape is a lot easier to draw than the male as there are a lot more curves!

This is my favourite Catwoman picture from my favourite Catwoman story. Catwoman has been kidnapped by a man, and he is trying to get her to marry him. He has forced her to don the wedding dress, with help from a couple of burly female attendants, but she is having none of it. She comes quietly down the aisle, but before the ceremony can starts, Catwoman is off. I love this picture for the dress - I tried to get the folds in the dress to ok as lifelike as possible. It was a lot easier as I copied the picture directly from the comic, but it was still quite an effort. Click on the picture for a larger version.
This is another picture that I love - Catwoman has been asked what does she want, and she just turns round and say - 'I'll take Manhattan!' The background is poor, but I was really just concentrating on Catwoman herself in this picture. I had to redo the face several times as I could not get the expression correct. This was just a detail in the Catwoman comic - she was holding up one side of a banner, but i thought it would be good practise for me to copy her and try to colour her in correctly. I'm reasonably pleased with this drawing as there were not many facial part to get wrong, and the legs came out well!

This was the first picture I copied from a comic. I was over at my then boyfriend's house, and I was ill, so I was leafing through his comics and saw this picture - which I just had to try and copy. The hair was what attracted me to doing this picture.
